We were the first fishing company in Peru to obtain the Perú Limpio (“Clean Peru”) seal from the Ministry of the Environment, thanks to our compliance with the commitments made in the Clean Production Agreement (CPA) signed with the Peruvian government.
“The Perú Limpio recognition fills us with pride because it aligns with our vision of being the fishing sector’s leading company in sustainability. It also highlights our organization’s contribution to promoting the efficient use of resources and the integrated management of solid waste with a circular economy approach”, explained our General Manager, Adriana Giudice.
The CPA was signed in February 2021 with the Ministry of Production, the Ministry of the Environment, and the National Fisheries Society (SNP). In this connection, as part of the fishing industry, we set the course for other companies to adhere to this agreement and continue to assume clean production commitments.
The goals accomplished within the framework of the CPA include 3 operational goals and 3 goals related to environmental education, such as: (a) the use of dehydrated sludge in the production process, (b) the valorization of epoxy paint cans used in maintenance work, (c) the recycling and recovery of fishing nets that completed their useful life cycle, (d) the training of employees and workers on environmental issues, (e) the implementation of environmental workshops with the attendance of artisanal fishermen from the Coishco cove, and (f) support provided to the segregation program with the engagement of the municipality of Coishco.
“All these accomplished actions add up to a number of initiatives that Austral has been developing in recent years, such as beach clean-up days and environmental training for its employees and workers”, highlighted Adriana Giudice.
Clean Production Agreements are instruments that enable the efficient use of materials and the management of solid waste, to which companies from all industries can voluntarily adhere.
